This five-day journey moves quickly from Chengdu into the high country of Qinghai, with Xiangride as the first base and a later shift toward Chaka. The core of the trip is three days allocated to wildlife tracking at elevations of roughly 3,000–4,500 metres. Wildlife searches may include snow leopard, Tibetan fox, Pallas’s cat, pikas, Eurasian eagle-owl and saker falcon, while the final transfer includes a stop to look for Przewalski’s gazelle. Return to the field for the final dedicated tracking day, continuing the search according to wildlife activity and conditions in the mountains. The programme remains focused on patient observation rather than guaranteed encounters, with possibilities including snow leopard and other high-altitude species. A simple local-family lunch is included during the tracking programme, adding a small glimpse of everyday life in the area. After completing the day’s wildlife search, leave the Xiangride area and continue toward Chaka, checking in near Chaka for the night.
