Panda Trace China Journey

2 Days Through Xi’an’s Heritage & Local Life

A two-day Xi'an journey combining the old city's walls, towers and food lanes with the Terracotta Warriors, Huaqing Palace and an evening performance.

The experience

Overview

This compact journey keeps Xi’an’s historic centre and Lintong as two distinct, well-paced days. The first stays largely within the old city, moving from the City Wall to the Bell and Drum Towers and then into Sajin Bridge or the Muslim Quarter for an evening shaped by local food streets and changing city light. The second day travels east to Lintong for the Terracotta Warriors and Huaqing Palace before The Song of Everlasting Sorrow and a return to Xi’an. The contrast is deliberate: old-city urban landmarks and present-day street life on Day 1, followed by the Qin mausoleum landscape and Tang imperial associations on Day 2. UNESCO recognizes the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor for its extraordinary archaeological ensemble, while Xi’an’s official tourism information identifies the Bell and Drum Towers as central cultural landmarks and Huaqing Palace for its long imperial hot-spring history.

Take in broad old-city and modern-city views from the wall, with cycling kept optional and dependent on weather, opening conditions and bicycle availability.

Old-city towers and food lanes

Link the Bell and Drum Towers with Sajin Bridge or the Muslim Quarter, letting crowd levels and guest preference shape the evening food-street choice.

Terracotta Warriors with time to look

Explore the major excavation pits and museum displays without rushing, within the UNESCO-listed mausoleum complex of China's first emperor.

Huaqing Palace into the evening

Continue through the palace's imperial hot-spring setting, then stay in Lintong for The Song of Everlasting Sorrow before returning to Xi'an.

Cycling depends on weather, opening conditions and bicycle availability. If it is not suitable, the City Wall visit can be completed on foot at a relaxed pace.

Allow approximately 45–75 minutes of total local transfers and about 15–25 km by vehicle, depending on hotel location; much of the day is on foot.

Can I cycle on the Xi'an City Wall?

Yes, when weather, opening conditions and bicycle availability permit. If cycling is unsuitable, the visit can be completed on foot at a relaxed pace.

Should Terracotta Warriors tickets be reserved in advance?

Yes. The official museum uses a real-name reservation system and lists its official website and WeChat channels as booking routes.

Is The Song of Everlasting Sorrow guaranteed to operate?

No. It is an outdoor evening performance subject to seasonal scheduling, weather and ticket availability, so the exact show time can affect the return to Xi’an.
