Search for wild red pandas on Day 2, then return to the same focus on the final morning, with photography included in the programme.
This three-day, two-night journey travels from Chengdu to Labahe Nature Reserve, with Tianquan Wetland Park listed as a possible stop on the outward transfer. After checking into a reserve hotel, Day 1 leaves room for optional light hiking along forest trails before the first evening night observation. Day 2 is the most concentrated field day, beginning with a search for wild red pandas before broadening to other wildlife that may include Lady Amherst’s Pheasant, Chinese goral and red deer. A second night observation follows in the evening. The final morning returns to searching for and photographing wild red pandas before lunch and the transfer back to Chengdu. Official conservation records list Labahe in Tianquan County as a provincial nature reserve established in 1963, with rare wildlife among its principal conservation values. Current national-park information also lists Labahe among the public recreation areas in the Sichuan section of Giant Panda National Park. Spring and autumn are used here as a conservative seasonal preference based on official recreation-season guidance, not as a guarantee of wildlife sightings.

Meet your guide in Chengdu and travel toward Labahe Nature Reserve. Depending on timing and conditions, the outward journey may include a stop at Tianquan Wetland Park to look for and photograph Mandarin Ducks. After arriving in Labahe, check into the reserve hotel and ease into the mountain environment with an optional light walk along nearby forest trails. Rather than making the first afternoon too demanding, keep the pace relaxed before heading out again after dark for the first night wildlife observation. Return to the hotel afterwards for the night.
Head out in the morning with your guide for the main red panda search of the journey. Move slowly along the reserve roads and surrounding forest, paying particular attention to fruiting rowan trees and other areas where red pandas may be feeding or moving through the canopy. The search remains flexible and unhurried, with time to stop, scan and wait rather than simply covering a fixed route. Along the way, keep watch for Lady Amherst’s Pheasant, Chinese goral, red deer and other forest wildlife. After the daytime search, return for a break before heading out again for a second night observation.
Return to the forest in the morning for one final period of red panda searching and photography. Revisit suitable habitat and areas showing recent activity, giving the morning enough time for patient observation rather than treating it as a quick final stop. Wildlife encounters remain unpredictable, but repeating the search across more than one morning gives the journey a stronger field focus. After the morning session, return for lunch before leaving Labahe Nature Reserve and driving back to Chengdu, where the journey concludes.
