The route combines dedicated wildlife observation around Xiangride and Nangqian with a cultural experience in Yushu. Local trackers help identify promising search areas according to recent field conditions. Sightings depend on weather, access and animal movements and cannot be guaranteed.

Arrive at Xining Caojiabao International Airport where your guide and driver will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel. The first evening is designed as a relaxed introduction to the journey, allowing time to adjust gradually to the altitude before enjoying a welcome dinner featuring local Qinghai cuisine and receiving a briefing about the wildlife expedition ahead.
Leave Xining and travel west across the broad landscapes of Qinghai. Near Haergai, stop in the open grasslands to search for Przewalski’s gazelle, while keeping watch for Tibetan foxes, raptors and other plateau wildlife. Continue through the changing scenery of the highlands to Xiangride, your base for the upcoming wildlife exploration days.
Begin your first dedicated wildlife search from Xiangride, entering mountain habitats where rocky ridges, valleys and alpine slopes provide opportunities for plateau wildlife observation. Working with local trackers, search for snow leopard while also looking for Pallas’s cat, Eurasian lynx, Tibetan wolf, Tibetan fox, bharal and other species. Observation is mainly conducted from selected viewpoints using binoculars and spotting scopes.
Continue the search for snow leopard and other high-altitude wildlife around Xiangride. The field area is selected according to recent information from local trackers, wildlife signs and weather conditions. Time may be spent patiently scanning promising valleys and slopes, while remaining alert for Pallas’s cat, Eurasian lynx, Tibetan wolf, Tibetan fox, bharal and large raptors.
Enjoy another full wildlife search day around Xiangride and Dulan. Depending on recent field information, the team may revisit productive valleys or explore alternative areas. Snow leopard remains the main focus, while the wider plateau ecosystem offers opportunities to observe other mammals and birds including Pallas’s cat, Eurasian lynx, Tibetan wolf, Tibetan fox and large ungulates.
Today is a long transfer across the Tibetan Plateau from Xiangride to Yushu. The route crosses mountain passes and wide areas of open grassland, offering changing landscapes and possible roadside wildlife observations including Tibetan gazelle, kiang, Tibetan fox and large raptors. Regular stops are arranged to make the journey comfortable.
Spend the morning experiencing the cultural landscape of Yushu and local Kham Tibetan traditions. Depending on opening conditions, visit a monastery or cultural site around Jiegu before continuing south toward Nangqian. Upon arrival, meet the local wildlife team and review recent snow leopard activity before the next stage of exploration.
Enter Nangqian’s dramatic mountain environment for the first dedicated search day in this region. With local trackers, explore landscapes of steep cliffs, river valleys, grasslands and high-altitude woodland while searching for snow leopard. Other possible wildlife includes bharal, white-lipped deer, Tibetan wolf, Tibetan fox, musk deer and high-altitude raptors.
Continue snow leopard tracking in Nangqian’s remote valleys. Wildlife observation here rewards patience, with time spent scanning from viewpoints and adjusting the route according to recent activity. The search may focus on one promising area or move between valleys, while also looking for Tibetan wolf, Tibetan fox, white-lipped deer, bharal and bearded vulture.
Complete the final full wildlife search day in Nangqian. The team will decide the search area based on recent signs, sightings, weather and access conditions. Continue looking for snow leopard while appreciating the wider biodiversity of this high-altitude mountain environment.
Leave Nangqian and return toward Yushu. If timing and recent wildlife conditions allow, spend the afternoon at a local observation area searching for Tibetan brown bear. The wildlife viewing is conducted respectfully with the local team, with possible observations of Tibetan foxes, wolves and raptors before returning to Yushu.
After breakfast, transfer to Yushu Batang Airport for your onward flight. Enjoy a final morning according to your flight schedule before the expedition service concludes at the airport.
