Houhai & Shichahai After Arrival
Ease into Beijing around the lakes, hutong lanes and traditional courtyard neighborhoods, with an evening return to the hotel.
This three-day Beijing journey balances major heritage sites with neighborhood-scale time. The first afternoon stays easy around Houhai and Shichahai after the airport arrival. Day 2 begins with the Temple of Heaven before the longest transfer day to Mutianyu Great Wall, then returns to Beijing for Peking duck. Day 3 links Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City with a lighter hutong walk around Nanluoguxiang. Central Beijing stages are listed at roughly 40–50 m elevation, while the Mutianyu ridge is roughly 500–1,000 m. Advance reservations shape Day 3, and the exact order may change to match confirmed time slots.

Beijing hotel
Ease into Beijing around the lakes, hutong lanes and traditional courtyard neighborhoods, with an evening return to the hotel.
Start early as local residents gather for exercise, tai chi, music and social activities before exploring the main ceremonial buildings.
Spend the afternoon walking between watchtowers and mountain views, with cable-car access available to reduce the amount of climbing.
Pair Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City with a slower afternoon walk through Nanluoguxiang and its surrounding hutong lanes.
Meet your guide and driver at Beijing Airport and transfer to your hotel, with the journey into central Beijing taking around 45–60 minutes. After check-in and some time to settle in, head out for an easy first look at the city around Houhai and Shichahai. Walk beside the lakes and through nearby hutong lanes, where traditional courtyard neighborhoods sit alongside everyday local life. Keep the first day deliberately relaxed after your arrival, then return to the hotel in the evening.

Start early at the Temple of Heaven, when the surrounding park is active with local residents exercising, practising tai chi, playing music and meeting friends. After exploring the main ceremonial buildings, continue out of the city to Mutianyu. Spend the afternoon walking between restored watchtowers and taking in the mountain landscape, using the cable car if you prefer to reduce the amount of climbing. Return to central Beijing in the evening and finish the day over a traditional Peking duck dinner.

Begin the morning at the Forbidden City, walking through its main ceremonial courtyards and palace areas with your guide. Rather than simply moving from one building to another, take time to understand how the imperial complex was arranged and used during the Ming and Qing dynasties. After leaving the palace grounds, continue to Tiananmen Square for a broader view of Beijing’s monumental city centre. Later, shift to a more relaxed pace around Nanluoguxiang and the surrounding hutong lanes, where courtyard homes, small shops and neighborhood life reveal a different side of the capital. The lighter afternoon brings the three-day journey to a natural close.

Expect mostly easy, flat walking around Houhai and hutong lanes, with moderate walking on stone steps, slopes and uneven sections at Mutianyu and other heritage sites.
The Day 3 visit order may change to match confirmed reservation time slots.
