Meet your guide in Chengdu in the morning and travel to the Tangjiahe area. After arrival and lunch, begin the first wildlife search through Tangjiahe’s forested valleys. Move at an unhurried pace with your guide, stopping to watch and photograph wildlife rather than treating the reserve as a sightseeing route. The wider search may include takins, Tibetan macaques, Chinese goral, Reeves’s muntjac, wild boar, pheasants and other mountain species, although sightings remain unpredictable. Finish the first field session later in the day and settle in for the night near Tangjiahe.
Return to Tangjiahe in the morning for another period of wildlife observation, using the quieter part of the day to continue searching the valleys and mountain forest. The focus remains broad, with your guide watching for mammals and birds according to current activity rather than following a fixed species checklist. After the morning field session and lunch, leave Tangjiahe and transfer toward the area near the golden monkey observation base. Check in nearby and keep the evening relaxed before the more structured golden monkey experience the following morning.
Visit the golden monkey observation area in the morning for a closer and more structured wildlife experience. Spend time observing and photographing Sichuan golden monkeys while watching how the group moves and behaves in its mountain environment. Unlike the open-ended wildlife searches in Tangjiahe, this part of the journey generally allows a more focused observation period, although wildlife behaviour always comes first. After the visit and lunch, begin the drive back to Chengdu. The journey finishes at the agreed drop-off point in the city.
Wildlife encounters take place in natural habitats, so sightings cannot be guaranteed. Patience, quiet observation and flexibility are an important part of the experience. The golden monkey visit is more structured and generally provides a closer observation opportunity.
The journey includes walking on forest trails and uneven ground. A reasonable level of mobility and comfortable outdoor footwear are recommended.
Mountain weather can change quickly. Bring layered clothing, a waterproof outer layer and suitable walking shoes.
